"We Will Not Touch the People’s Property, I Swear by Allah" – Jamaat Ameer
Speaking at a massive election rally at the Meherpur Government High School ground on Monday afternoon, January 26, the Ameer took a solemn oath by Allah three times, promising that his party members would never lay a hand on public resources. He further committed that elected representatives would not be allowed to increase their personal wealth and would be required to present their income accounts to the public annually.
Addressing local grievances, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman issued a stern warning against extortion and corruption, noting that even a small district like Meherpur is currently plagued by extortionists. He promised that if elected, his government would focus on the employment and rehabilitation of these individuals to steer them away from criminal paths. On the issue of unemployment, he clarified that Jamaat does not support providing unemployment allowances, as they believe it encourages idleness. Instead, he pledged that the state would focus on creating tangible work opportunities for the youth.
Regarding the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and the concurrent referendum, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that a "Yes" vote in the referendum signifies freedom (Ajadi), while a "No" vote represents slavery (Golami). He urged voters to guard their polling centers and build a collective resistance against any attempts at vote-rigging. Criticizing the rulers of the past 54 years, he claimed that no previous government succeeded in gifting the nation a country free from corruption and bank looting. He vowed to work alongside the younger generation to decorate the country "like a flower."
During the rally, the Ameer formally introduced Maulana Md. Tajuddin Khan as the candidate for Meherpur-1 and Md. Nazmul Huda for the Meherpur-2 (Gangni) constituency. The event also featured speeches from the Central Secretary General of Chhatra Shibir, Sibgatullah Sibga, and other local and central leaders of the party.
