Jamaat-e-Islami Launches Campaign Across Multiple Constituencies
Through leaflet distribution and small-scale street meetings at key intersections and neighborhoods, candidates are working to draw the attention of the electorate. According to party sources, Jamaat-e-Islami is directly contesting 13 of the 20 parliamentary seats in the Dhaka metropolitan area. In the remaining seats, candidates from the National Citizens' Party (NCP) and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis are competing as partners in a 10-party alliance.
A significant presence of Jamaat supporters has been observed since the morning, contributing to a festive election atmosphere. As part of the initial outreach, Kamal Hossain in Dhaka-5, Abdul Mannan in Dhaka-6, and Enayet Ullah in Dhaka-7, among other candidates, started their public interactions in their respective areas, distributing flyers and seeking support for the polls scheduled for February 12.
However, the Dhaka-15 constituency (Mirpur-Kafrul) has drawn particular attention. A major public rally for the candidate of this seat—and the Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami—Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, is scheduled for 2:30 PM today at the Adarsha School field in Mirpur-10. Given his status as the party chief and a top alliance leader, activists have made extensive preparations for the event. Other senior leaders from the 10-party alliance are also expected to attend.
Following the electoral code of conduct, candidates are conducting organized campaigns using black-and-white banners and handbills. Jamaat leaders claim that after being unable to campaign openly for a long period, there is a palpable sense of enthusiasm and excitement among voters.
