Rumin Farhana Explains ‘Thumbs-Up’ Gesture; Accuses Local Admin of Biased Conduct
She clarified that the gesture was not intended as an insult but was part of an explanation regarding someone else's actions. Farhana questioned the fairness of the election, claiming that while her rivals are holding massive rallies and feasts without consequence, she is being repeatedly targeted with legal actions by what she calls a "biased" administration.
Conversely, the District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner, Sharmin Akter Jahan, have summoned Rumin Farhana to appear in person on January 22 to provide an explanation for her conduct. A report by the Assistant Returning Officer alleges that she obstructed judicial duties and created a "mob-like" situation during a rally in Sarail, where she reportedly behaved aggressively toward an executive magistrate. While Farhana maintains that she will respond to the show-cause notice through her lawyers, she warned the administration to remain neutral, reminding them of the August 5 uprising. She cautioned that failing to ensure a level playing field could lead to unrest. However, the Returning Officer dismissed her claims, stating that the law applies to everyone and notices are issued whenever a violation is observed.
