Jamaat will not field candidate in Foyzul Karim’s constituency
On Sunday evening, after a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, Jamaat’s Naib Amir Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher announced the decision. He stated that Jamaat will not field a candidate against Islami Andolan’s Senior Naib Amir. As a courtesy, Jamaat will withdraw its candidate from Foyzul Karim’s constituency, which will be Barishal-6.
In an effort to consolidate votes among Islamist parties, Jamaat and allied groups have coordinated their strategy for nearly a year. Islami Andolan, Jamaat, and six other parties have worked together during this period. Recently, the National Citizens Party (NCP) also joined the alliance, making a total of 11 parties. However, due to disagreements over seat allocation, Islami Andolan decided to contest separately, leading Jamaat to opt out of fielding a candidate in one of Foyzul Karim’s constituencies.
