BNP raises concerns over alleged bias by Election Commission officials
He made the remarks on Sunday after a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin at the EC office.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged that the postal ballots sent to voters contain flaws that could benefit a particular political party. He said the BNP has asked for postal ballots to be reissued after the allocation of election symbols.
The BNP leader further claimed that the EC’s conduct in several areas has raised concerns over fairness. He also accused Jamaat-e-Islami of violating the electoral code of conduct by collecting voters’ national ID details, mobile numbers and mobile financial service information during campaign activities.
Concerns were also raised over voter transfers, with Mirza Fakhrul alleging that voters from different regions were relocated and registered in Dhaka constituencies. The party has sought a list of those voters from the EC.
Calling for a level playing field, Mirza Fakhrul said officials found guilty of biased behaviour must be held accountable. However, he expressed confidence that a credible election is still possible under the current Election Commission if the identified shortcomings are addressed promptly.
