Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Calls for 'Patience' Following Islami Andolan’s Exit from Alliance
On Friday evening, Dr. Rahman wrote, "The test of patience is the greatest test. May Allah grant everyone the strength to hold maximum patience." Though he named no one, the timing suggests a response to the direct allegations made by Islami Andolan leaders earlier that day.
At a press conference on Friday afternoon, Islami Andolan’s Senior Joint Secretary General Gazi Ataur Rahman leveled several accusations against Jamaat-e-Islami. He claimed that Jamaat has strayed from its ideological path, citing rumors that the party might not implement Sharia law if elected. Furthermore, he criticized Dr. Rahman’s discussions with BNP leader Tarique Rahman regarding a "National Government," labeling it a move toward a "staged election."
The most significant friction involves an alleged comment made during a private meeting on December 9. Gazi Ataur Rahman claimed that the Jamaat Ameer, citing a survey, referred to the vote bank of the Peer of Charmonai as "zero point something." This perceived insult reportedly became the turning point, prompting Islami Andolan to distance itself from the alliance and field candidates in 268 seats independently.
