Rift with Jamaat: Islami Andolan Hints at New Alliance
Speaking at a press conference held today at the party's central office in Purana Paltan, the IAB spokesperson addressed the fallout from the postponed joint alliance meeting. The meeting, which was supposed to announce candidates for the 11-party alliance, was cancelled due to a deadlock over seat distribution.
According to party sources, IAB demanded 50 seats, while Jamaat was unwilling to offer more than 40. Commenting on the situation, Gazi Ataur said, "We do not practice the politics of accepting imposed decisions. If anyone neglects us, it will not be tolerated."
The spokesperson also expressed skepticism regarding Jamaat's recent proximity to the BNP. He questioned whether Jamaat intends to play a role similar to that of the Jatiya Party.
Furthermore, he hinted that discussions are ongoing with several other political parties beyond the current alliance. While the final decision is expected within the next couple of days, he noted that the door for a minimum consensus with Jamaat has not been entirely closed yet.
