Speaking during a visit to the newly constructed BSCIC Industrial Estate in Thakurgaon on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, the Minister highlighted that this estate, centered on food processing industries, is projected to create employment for approximately 25,000 people. He emphasized that following the success of the Thakurgaon EPZ, this new industrial park is being developed as a specialized agro-hub to capitalize on the region's vast potential in potato, tea, and dairy-based production. The Minister noted that local products, such as Thakurgaon’s mozzarella cheese and tea, are already reaching international markets, showcasing the global competitiveness of the area’s agricultural output.

To ensure the sustainable growth of these industries, the government is planning to introduce "contract farming" for farmers, focusing on high-quality potato varieties to maximize the use of surplus produce. Spanning 50 acres of land, the industrial park features 251 plots designed to accommodate a diverse range of processing units. During the inspection, the Minister was accompanied by the Secretary of the Ministry of Industries, the BSCIC Chairman, and senior officials from the district administration. Minister Muktadir reiterated that by bridging the gap between farmers and industrial processing, the government aims to ensure fair prices for growers while driving industrialization in the northern region, ultimately contributing to a more robust and self-reliant national economy.
