Bogura Becomes City Corporation; 5 New Upazilas Formed

During its 120th meeting held at the Secretariat, presided over by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the committee also sanctioned the creation of five brand-new Upazilas across various districts to decentralize governance and enhance public service delivery.

The newly established Upazilas include ‘Mokamtala’ in Bogura, ‘Matamuhuri’ in Cox’s Bazar, ‘Ruhia’ and ‘Bhulli’ in Thakurgaon, and ‘Chandraganj’ in Lakshmipur. According to the decision, these new units were carved out of larger existing Upazilas such as Shibganj, Chakaria, and the Sadar Upazilas of Thakurgaon and Lakshmipur. This strategic reorganization is expected to streamline local administration and provide a significant boost to the socio-economic development of these regions.
