Upon the arrival of her remains on Saturday morning, May 9, 2026, a pall of profound grief descended over the community, with family members and neighbors gathered in mourning for the loss of such a brilliant young scholar. Relatives confirmed that Brishti's body reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:40 AM today. Following the completion of official formalities, the body was transported by ambulance to her family home in the afternoon. Her funeral prayer is scheduled to be held at the local high school grounds after the Asr prayer, followed by burial in the family graveyard.

Brishti, who completed her undergraduate studies at Noakhali Science and Technology University, had moved to the United States last year to pursue a PhD at the University of South Florida. Her promising journey was cut short after she went missing on April 17, an incident that culminated in the discovery of her death and the subsequent arrest of Hisham Abugharbieh, a former American student accused of the murder. In a poignant gesture of recognition, the University of South Florida authorities have decided to award posthumous doctorate degrees to both Brishti and her classmate, Jamil Ahmed Limon, who also lost his life. The degrees were slated to be presented during the university’s convocation ceremony on Friday. As the community prepares for her final rites, Brishti’s family has made an emotional plea to the authorities for exemplary justice to be served for this brutal and senseless killing.
