Ministry to Take Tough Action Against Corruption in 'Bir Nibas' Housing Project
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, following the third day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium, the State Minister vowed to investigate all irregularities thoroughly.
The State Minister emphasized that the extensive anomalies reported during the "fascist era" of the previous government will be scrutinized under a microscope. He reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring such corruption does not recur and stated that accountability is now a top priority.
Priority on Veteran Welfare and List Accuracy During the conference, Ishraque Hossain sought the active cooperation of District Commissioners to streamline field-level projects. He noted that the ministry's current primary focus is formulating an accurate list of authentic Freedom Fighters, ensuring they receive proper state honors, and the transparent execution of the Bir Nibas project.
"Our discussions with the DCs were highly productive. We are taking all necessary steps to make government activities more dynamic and people-friendly," he said. He also issued special directives to the DCs to expedite the construction of the remaining housing units.
Project Status at a Glance According to ministry data, the government had set a target to construct 30,000 ‘Bir Nibas’ (homes for veterans) for underprivileged Freedom Fighters.
