Record Death Toll from Measles and Related Symptoms: 17 Lives Lost in a Single Day

According to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued on Monday (May 4), the outbreak has intensified significantly since mid-March. Between March 15 and May 4, a total of 259 people died with suspected measles symptoms, while 52 deaths were laboratory-confirmed cases of measles.

The DGHS data reveals that 1,302 suspected cases were identified in the last 24 hours alone, with 154 confirmed infections. Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles cases has surged to 41,793, of which 5,467 have been officially confirmed. During this period, 28,842 patients required hospitalization, and 25,151 have successfully recovered and been discharged. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and urging the public to ensure timely vaccinations to curb the spread of this highly contagious disease.
