Prime Minister Holds High-Level Meeting to Revitalize Textile and Jute Sector
The session took place at the Prime Minister's Office within the Cabinet Division, as confirmed by the Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary, Atiqur Rahman Rumon.
The discussions primarily centered on reviving defunct mills under the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, ensuring job security for workers, and restoring the historical prestige of these industries. The Prime Minister issued specific directives to resolve existing bottlenecks and accelerate industrial growth. A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) or direct government funding to bring closed units back into production as quickly as possible.
The meeting was attended by Commerce, Textile, and Jute Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; the Prime Minister's Advisor on Political and Industrial Affairs, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi; State Minister for Textiles and Jute, Shariful Alam; and the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun. The Prime Minister urged BIDA and other stakeholders to work in coordination to boost investment and breathe new life into the nation's industrial landscape.
