New Airport and International Flying Academy Planned for Bogra: Aviation Minister

Afroza Khanam (Rita), the Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism, shared this information with reporters on Monday, May 4, 2026, following the first session of the second day of the Deputy Commissioners' (DC) Conference. She emphasized that the academy will play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for skilled pilots in the country.

The Minister announced that she will personally visit Bogra on May 7 to inspect the proposed site. “In addition to building an airport in Bogra, we intend to establish a flying academy there. We need many more pilots. We want to create opportunities so that talented students, including those from underprivileged backgrounds, can fulfill their dreams of becoming pilots,” she stated. She also noted that initiatives are underway to operationalize the Thakurgaon airport.

Highlighting the importance of the tourism sector during the DC Conference, the Minister mentioned that detailed discussions were held regarding the renovation of existing tourist spots and the creation of new attractions in every district. Special emphasis was placed on bringing areas like Monpura and Netrokona under the tourism network. Additionally, District Commissioners were given specific directives to ensure the safety of tourists and maintain the cleanliness of Cox’s Bazar beach. She assured that the ministry would provide full cooperation to implement the proposals received from the field level.
