Body of PhD Student Limon Arrives in Dhaka; Brishti’s Remains Expected Wednesday
The Emirates flight carrying his remains landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47 AM on May 4, 2026. The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington confirmed that the body was dispatched from Orlando International Airport in Florida on Saturday night, local time.
The tragedy dates back to April 16, when two Bangladeshi PhD students at the University of South Florida, Jamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Brishti, were reported missing. Following an intense search, Jamil’s body was recovered on April 24, and Brishti’s remains were found on April 30. Their identities were later confirmed through forensic examinations. Police have arrested Hisham Abughereh, Jamil’s roommate, in connection with the double homicide. According to court documents, Limon was attacked and killed with a sharp weapon, and the suspect is now facing two counts of first-degree premeditated murder.
Meanwhile, the process of repatriating the remains of Nahida Sultana Brishti is underway, with her body expected to reach Dhaka next Wednesday, May 6, following her funeral prayers. Golam Mortoza, Press Minister at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, stated that all necessary arrangements are being made to expedite the process at the request of her family. The untimely and horrific deaths of these two brilliant scholars have cast a deep shadow of grief over the Bangladeshi community both at home and abroad.
