He made this pledge on Saturday, May 2, 2026, while addressing a civic gathering following the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a drainage project in the city's Chandni Ghat area. The Prime Minister noted that the government has already held discussions with the relevant ministries and expressed strong confidence in the swift reopening of the facility.

In his address, the Prime Minister placed significant emphasis on the development of the freelancing and information technology sectors. He highlighted that a large number of the country's youth are currently engaged in freelancing and data processing, and the government intends to create specialized opportunities within the IT Park to help them scale their earnings. He further described the park as a vital platform for aspiring tech professionals who have the will to work but currently lack the necessary infrastructure and opportunities. The Prime Minister envisions the IT sector becoming a primary engine of Sylhet’s regional economy.

Beyond the technology sector, Prime Minister Rahman also discussed the modernization of vocational institutes to enhance the nation's human resource capabilities. He mentioned that youth will be provided with targeted training based on their diverse educational backgrounds, preparing them to compete as skilled workers in both the domestic and international labor markets. Making these employment-focused declarations during his first visit to Sylhet since taking office, the Prime Minister has sparked significant optimism among the local youth and civil society leaders.
