Government Committed to Ensuring Workers' Rights: Mahdi Amin
Speaking at an event marking International Workers' Day at the China-Friendship Conference Centre, he highlighted that Bangladesh has ratified 39 ILO conventions and a protocol. Under the Prime Minister’s direction, the government is implementing key initiatives such as timely wage payments, wage reviews to eliminate gender disparity, and the introduction of the ‘Probashi Card’ to protect expatriate workers.
During his speech, the Advisor recalled the legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, noting his visionary role in opening the Middle East labor market, which remains a cornerstone of the national economy. Amin emphasized that previous BNP administrations consistently prioritized labor law reforms, the formation of wage commissions, and the establishment of the Labor Welfare Foundation. He concluded that as a democratic government, their priority remains creating a safe working environment and enhancing the socio-economic status of the labor force, who are the true drivers of national progress.
