Instead, the administration's primary commitment is to build a safe and humane state where every citizen can independently practice their religious rites and enjoy their constitutional rights. The Prime Minister made these remarks in a written statement following a greetings exchange with Buddhist community leaders at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday, April 30, 2026.

Praising the 'Five Precepts' (Panchshila) of Gautama Buddha, the Prime Minister noted that the teachings of abstaining from killing, stealing, misconduct, lying, and intoxication are vital for all individuals. He expressed his belief that if citizens follow the moral guidelines of their respective religions alongside state laws, it will be much easier to establish a disciplined and compassionate society. Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Shujauddoula Sujan Mahmud, confirmed the details of the address.

In his address, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s core philosophy: “Religion is for individuals, but the right to security is for everyone.” He reminded the audience that during the Liberation War, there was no distinction between Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, believers, or non-believers, as everyone united to free the nation. Reaffirming the philosophy of Bangladeshi nationalism, he stated that this ideology ensures the peaceful coexistence of all religious and ethnic groups. Addressing the Buddhist community directly, he urged them not to consider themselves minorities, stating, "We are all Bangladeshis." The Prime Minister reiterated that the government is determined to ensure equal rights for citizens of all faiths to maintain national peace and progress.
