Biman Set to Sign $3.7 Billion Mega Deal with Boeing for 14 New Aircraft
The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Thursday (April 30) at the Hotel InterContinental Dhaka. Under this landmark deal, Biman will acquire 14 new aircraft at an estimated cost of $3.7 billion (approx. 37,000 crore BDT), marking a significant milestone in the airline's modernization journey.
The procurement includes eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two 787-9 Dreamliners, and four 737-8 Max jets. This decision concludes a three-year-long intense competition between Boeing and the European manufacturer Airbus for Biman's order. While high-level diplomatic efforts were made to include Airbus in the fleet, the government ultimately opted for an all-Boeing expansion to enhance capacity on long-haul routes to Europe and Asia. High-ranking government officials, including the Foreign Minister and the U.S. Ambassador, are expected to grace the signing ceremony.
