Democracy Impossible Without Human Rights, Says PM Tarek Rahman
Speaking as the chief guest at an event marking National Legal Aid Day on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, the Prime Minister asserted that true democracy can never be established in a country where human rights are not protected. The address, delivered around 12:30 PM, highlighted the government's commitment to social justice and the rule of law.
During his speech, the Prime Minister laid special emphasis on making the judicial system accessible to ordinary citizens. He stated that the government is taking necessary initiatives for the speedy disposal of cases to ensure justice is served without delay. "Our government's primary goal is to ensure that no citizen of Bangladesh is deprived of justice due to a lack of financial resources," he remarked. He further pledged to strengthen the government's legal aid programs, which provide free legal assistance to poor and helpless litigants.
Prime Minister Tarek Rahman also noted that ensuring the independence and transparency of the judiciary is essential for upholding the rule of law and human rights. He urged lawyers to play a more responsible role in protecting the rights of the common people and mentioned that the current administration is actively working to reduce judicial backlogs.
