Russia Committed to Completing Rooppur Nuclear Project Within Deadline
The high-level meeting took place on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2026, at the Prime Minister’s Office. The discussions centered on the current progress and future roadmap of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) project, which is vital for meeting Bangladesh’s growing electricity demand and establishing a sustainable energy framework.
During the meeting, the Rosatom chief briefed the Prime Minister on the latest technical and infrastructural developments at the Rooppur site. He reaffirmed that despite various global challenges, Russia remains fully committed to completing the project within the stipulated timeframe. Prime Minister Tarek Rahman praised Russia’s advanced technological support in Bangladesh’s development journey, noting that a long-term strategic partnership between the two nations is essential for ensuring national energy security. The meeting also underscored the importance of nuclear fuel management, adherence to international safety standards, and enhancing the technical expertise of local engineers.
The meeting was attended by the Foreign Minister, the Minister for Science and Technology, and the Prime Minister’s ICT Advisor on behalf of Bangladesh. The Russian delegation included Ambassador Alexander Khozin and other senior officials. Experts believe this high-level dialogue will further strengthen Russia’s technical cooperation in transforming Bangladesh’s energy sector, ultimately facilitating a more stable and sustainable power supply to the national grid.
