Bangladesh and US to Collaborate in Combating Misinformation

This announcement followed a courtesy meeting between Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T. Christensen, held at the Secretariat on Monday, April 27, 2026. During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of building a transparent media ecosystem by leveraging technological excellence to overcome current global media crises.

The Information Minister revealed that the government is planning to establish a robust and modern "Media Commission" in Bangladesh. The United States has expressed keen interest in providing both ethical and technical support for the formation and operation of this commission. Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon remarked that as a technologically advanced nation, the US’s management of its modern media ecosystem offers valuable lessons for Bangladesh. He noted that the government aims to utilize American policy support and technological expertise to further reform the domestic media sector.

The discussion also touched upon advancing the existing friendly relations between the two countries in the fields of media and technological policy. The Minister confirmed that the Ministry of Information and the US Embassy will work closely to expand areas of mutual cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing capabilities through modern technology and training to curb the spread of propaganda across digital platforms. This partnership is seen as a strategic move to ensure a more secure and accountable digital landscape for the public.
