PM Presides Over 2nd ECNEC Meeting; 17 Projects Worth Tk 7,000 Crore Proposed
Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Tarek Rahman presided over this second ECNEC session of the current BNP government. The meeting focused on various mega-projects and public interest proposals aimed at accelerating national development and reflecting the government’s electoral manifesto.
According to sources from the Ministry of Planning, a total of 17 development projects were presented for approval during the meeting. The estimated cost for implementing these projects is approximately Tk 7,000 crore. Among the proposals, the Physical Infrastructure Division received the highest priority with 11 projects. Additionally, four projects were from the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division, and two were from the Agriculture, Water Resources, and Rural Institutions Division of the Planning Commission. The final implementation outlines will be determined following a detailed assessment of each project.
In addition to the 17 new projects, the meeting also presented 33 other projects previously approved by the Planning Minister for the committee's information. It is noteworthy that the current government's first ECNEC meeting took place on April 6, where five projects worth Tk 483.43 crore were approved. The significant increase in both the number of projects and the allocation amount in this second meeting is expected to have a major positive impact on the country's infrastructural development. The Planning Minister, along with other ministers and senior secretaries from relevant ministries, attended the session.
