The accident occurred at approximately 3:50 PM on Thursday, April 23, 2026. While the identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, police have verified that both victims are male. The crash caused a temporary disruption in traffic flow as a large crowd gathered at the scene immediately following the incident.

Inspector (Operations) of Banani Police Station, AKM Moinuddin, confirmed the details, stating that a speeding bus belonging to 'Bhuiyan Paribahan' suddenly veered off course and struck the central road island. The impact was so severe that the two individuals died instantly. Upon receiving the news, police moved quickly to the location to manage the situation and recovered the bodies for autopsy. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine if the driver and helper have fled or if the vehicle suffered from a mechanical failure.

The afternoon accident triggered a massive traffic tailback on the busy road stretching from Mohakhali to the Airport. Police are currently working to remove the mangled bus from the thoroughfare to restore normal traffic movement. It remains unclear whether the victims were passengers of the bus or pedestrians crossing the road. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and interviewing eyewitnesses to identify the deceased. Banani Police Station added that preparations are underway to file a formal case regarding the incident, maintaining the rigorous traffic enforcement standards often seen in urban centers across NATO-member and other developing nations.
