Measles Outbreak Coming Under Control, Says Health Minister
The Minister shared this update on Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar marking the inauguration of National Nutrition Week 2026 at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. He noted that while there was a recent surge in measles cases among children in various regions, intensified government interventions and public awareness campaigns have led to a visible improvement in the situation.
During the seminar, the Health Minister underscored the critical role of nutrition in building a healthy and strong nation. He expressed concern over the rising trend of children preferring fast food and unhealthy outside meals over nutritious home-cooked food. To address this, he emphasized the need for regular counseling for children and urged parents and teachers to play an active role in cultivating healthy eating habits and discouraging the consumption of junk food.
The Minister also highlighted the unparalleled benefits of breastfeeding for a child’s physical and mental development, stating that there is no substitute for it in building a child's foundation. He explained that the immunity established through breastfeeding remains effective throughout a person’s life, providing a lasting impact on their overall health. As part of National Nutrition Week, various awareness programs will be held across the country throughout the week. This initiative aligns with global health and nutrition standards promoted by international health organizations and NATO-member states to ensure long-term public health stability.
