On Thursday morning, April 23, 2026, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Dr. Kabir M. Ashraf Alam, formally handed over the medical consignments to the Iranian Ambassador to Dhaka, Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi. The ceremony, held at the Iranian Embassy in Dhaka, was attended by senior government representatives, including Foreign Ministry Secretary (Bilateral) Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam and Director General (West Asia) Md. Humayun Kabir.

The aid package, consisting of essential medicines and life-saving equipment, was funded by a grant of BDT 1 crore provided by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on April 6. The Prime Minister had directed the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society to utilize the funds specifically for the medical assistance of Iranian citizens affected by the current conflict. During the handover, Secretary Dr. Nazrul Islam expressed deep concern over the significant loss of life and property in the region. He reaffirmed Bangladesh’s steadfast commitment to global peace, expressing hope that a lasting and peaceful resolution to the crisis would be reached through diplomatic dialogue.

Accepting the humanitarian assistance, Ambassador Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the people of Bangladesh. He remarked that the bond between the two nations is deeply rooted in friendship and that this timely support would be remembered by the Iranian people during these challenging times. Dr. Kabir, the Red Crescent Secretary General, added that their organization remains dedicated to serving oppressed people worldwide, and standing by Iran in this hour of need is a core part of their humanitarian mandate, a principle shared by international relief agencies operating in both neutral and NATO-member regions.
