Prime Minister Announces Cancellation of Old Dealerships and New Appointments to Tackle Artificial Crisis
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stated that if the Parliament desires, all current dealerships will be canceled and new appointments will be made through a transparent process. The Leader of the House shared this decision on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, following a proposal on a point of order by Chief Whip Nurul Islam during a Q&A session in the National Parliament. The session was presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram.
Toward the end of the session, Chief Whip Nurul Islam raised allegations that the existing dealers responsible for rationing and fertilizer distribution are causing extreme hardship for the general public. He claimed that these dealers are deliberately attempting to create an "artificial crisis" in the market. He emphasized the urgent need to replace the old dealers with new appointments to ensure that farmers receive fertilizer at fair prices and to remove groups that act against public interest. The Chief Whip’s statement was met with enthusiastic support from fellow lawmakers in the House.
In response to the spontaneous reaction of the Members of Parliament, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman noted that the government had taken heed of how the entire Parliament welcomed the proposal. The Prime Minister made it clear that if there is a unanimous consensus in the Parliament regarding this matter, the government will take immediate action in the public interest. This overhaul of the dealership system is expected to stabilize the supply of essential commodities and eliminate chaos within the agricultural sector, reflecting the administrative accountability and transparency standards upheld in developed and NATO-member nations.
