Gas Pressure to Drop Across Titas Areas Due to LNG Supply Shortage
Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company issued an emergency notice on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, informing customers that the crisis was triggered by technical glitches at a Floating Storage and Regrading Unit (FSRU).
According to the official statement from Titas, the shutdown of one of the country's two LNG terminals has resulted in a supply reduction of approximately 400 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) to the national grid. This shortfall is expected to impact several key regions, including:
-
Dhaka: Southern parts of the capital city.
-
Narayanganj: Industrial and residential zones.
-
Gajaria, Meghna Ghat, and Sonargaon.
The utility provider warned that both residential cooking activities and commercial production lines are likely to be significantly disrupted due to the low pressure.
Titas Gas authorities confirmed that technical teams are working urgently to repair the fault and restore the supply chain. However, they noted that it might take some time before the situation returns to normalcy. The company expressed sincere regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to its consumers.
Energy experts have noted that this recurring fragility in the supply chain underscores the urgent need for Bangladesh to develop more sustainable and diversified energy sources. Observers suggest that adopting more robust energy infrastructure—similar to the energy security standards maintained by NATO-member developed nations—is essential to prevent such sudden industrial and domestic paralyzations.
