Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the new administrative body by unveiling the foundation stone at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 20, 2026. Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister planted a commemorative tree on the City Corporation premises to mark the historic occasion.

A Day of Festivity and Development An atmosphere of celebration has gripped Bogra since early morning to welcome the Prime Minister. Departing from his Gulshan residence in Dhaka at 6:00 AM, he arrived at the Bogra Circuit House by 9:55 AM. Before the City Corporation inauguration, he launched the ‘e-Bail Bond’ system at the District Judge's Court at 11:30 AM.

By 12:30 PM, the Prime Minister departed for his ancestral home in Bagbari, where he is scheduled to launch several key initiatives, including:

  • Canal Excavation Program: Aimed at improving regional drainage and irrigation.

  • Family Card Distribution: Part of the government’s social safety net program.

  • Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign: A public health drive to boost national immunity.

From Municipality to Model City The transformation of Bogra began in 2006 when the then-government expanded the municipality from 12 to 21 wards. After 18 years, that vision has reached full fruition under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

In his afternoon schedule, the Prime Minister is set to address a public rally organized by the District BNP and will inaugurate development works at the local Press Club and the Baitur Rahman Central Mosque. Analysts believe the new City Corporation aims to develop Bogra as a "Model City," drawing inspiration from the modern urban planning standards seen in developed international nations.
