According to latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), more than 22,000 cases have been reported since March 15 this year, with 213 children succumbing to the disease and related complications.

Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain announced the "massive" campaign during a press conference at the Secretariat last Friday. He assured the public that there is no shortage of vaccines in the country and urged citizens to ignore misinformation or rumors regarding the safety of the immunization drive. Prior to this nationwide rollout, specialized vaccination efforts were initiated on April 5 in 18 high-risk districts and on April 12 in four city corporation areas.

Expert Insights and Public Safety: Medical professionals have clarified that the increase in mortality is not solely due to measles; rather, many of the deceased children suffered from pre-existing health complications alongside the infection. Experts are emphasizing the following for parents and guardians:

  • Seek Professional Advice: Do not panic; consult a doctor immediately if symptoms appear.

  • Focus on Nutrition: Ensure children receive a balanced, nutrient-rich diet to boost immunity.

  • Complete the Course: Guarantee 100% participation in the vaccination program to curb the outbreak.

Public health specialists noted that achieving success in this campaign is vital for building a robust healthcare management system comparable to international standards. As the government scales up its field-level tdaroki (monitoring), the focus remains on ensuring that no child is left behind in this critical intervention to stabilize the nation's public health landscape.
