Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Passes Away After Battling Malaria
Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman breathed his last at around 6:25 AM today, Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 58. He was admitted to the hospital last Monday following a sharp drop in his blood platelet count and was subsequently diagnosed with malaria.
An officer of the 13th BCS Customs and Excise cadre, Rahman had taken charge as the Commerce Secretary on February 25 this year. Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir has expressed profound grief and condolences over his passing. He leaves behind a wife, three daughters, and a legacy of dedicated public service.
