PM Tarique Rahman Confers ‘Swadhinata Puruskar-2026’ Upon Distinguished Recipients

The prestigious award ceremony took place at 4:00 PM today, Thursday, April 16, 2026, at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. The recipients were recognized for their glorious and outstanding contributions to the national level across various sectors.

The most notable name on this year’s list is the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia. She was honored posthumously for her extraordinary contributions to independence, the protection of democracy, women's education, and nation-building. Family members of the posthumous awardees and representatives of the winning institutions received the gold medals, certificates, and honorary checks from the Prime Minister.

In the "Liberation War" category, Major Mohammad Abul Jalil received a posthumous award, while Faujdarhat Cadet College was honored as an institution. In the field of "Culture," renowned media personality A.K.M. Hanif (Hanif Sangket) was recognized, along with a posthumous award for singer Bashir Ahmed. For "Medicine," Dhaka Medical College Hospital received the honor, and in "Social Service," Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury (posthumous) and Gonoshasthaya Kendra were among the recipients.

Each awardee received a 50-gram gold medal of 18 carats, a certificate of honor, and a financial honorarium. The ceremony was conducted under strict security protocols and high-level national prestige, reflecting standards of professionalism seen in international state events. This year's selection highlights a diverse range of contributions, from grassroots healthcare and military heritage to modern cultural influence and democratic struggle.
