PM Tarique Rahman to Inaugurate First Hajj Flight Friday Midnight
The ceremony will take place at midnight on Friday, April 17, 2026 (specifically at 12:30 AM). Religious Affairs Minister Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad confirmed the schedule, stating that all final preparations are currently being monitored at the Ashkona Hajj Camp in the capital to ensure a seamless departure for the pilgrims.
A total of 78,500 Bangladeshi pilgrims are scheduled to perform Hajj in Saudi Arabia this year. To facilitate a smoother journey, the "Makkah Route Initiative" remains in effect, allowing Saudi immigration procedures to be completed in Bangladesh. This arrangement ensures that pilgrims will not face long wait times upon arriving at Jeddah or Madinah airports.
On the inaugural day, a total of 13 special flights operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Saudi Airlines, and Flynas will transport the pilgrims. To support their health and well-being, a 171-member medical team has already arrived in Saudi Arabia, with an additional 150 volunteers and service staff expected to depart shortly.
Despite the extensive preparations, Hajj agencies have expressed concerns regarding potential logistical challenges. New regulations introduced by the Saudi government at the holy sites of Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah could lead to minor temporary inconveniences. However, the Ministry of Religious Affairs has assured that they are in constant communication with Saudi authorities and have established a special monitoring cell to address any issues.
The airport authorities have also been directed to maintain international aviation security standards to ensure the overall safety of the pilgrims. As the first group of pilgrims prepares to embark on their spiritual journey, the government’s focus remains on providing a hassle-free and coordinated experience from departure to return.
