Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan, the investigating officer from the CID, presented the application on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, before the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam. Helal, who reportedly owns a licensed arms shop in Chattogram, was recently apprehended in the port city.

The case dates back to December 12, when Hadi was attacked while leading an election campaign procession toward Suhrawardy Udyan after Friday prayers in Motijheel. As the procession reached the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station, unidentified assailants on motorcycles opened fire on him before fleeing the scene. Hadi was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital before being flown to Singapore for advanced care on December 15. He tragically succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment there on December 18.

Following Hadi’s death, the initial attempted murder case filed by Abdullah Al Jaber, Member Secretary of Inqilab Mancha, was formally converted into a murder investigation. CID sources indicate that Helal is suspected of supplying the firearm used in the assassination. Investigators believe that interrogating Helal under remand is essential to confirm the weapon's origin and to uncover the broader criminal conspiracy. The charges in the case currently include criminal conspiracy, murder using dangerous weapons, and abetting a crime.

The CID remains hopeful that Helal’s testimony will lead to the identification of the masterminds behind the attack and the gunmen who carried out the shooting. The court is expected to hold a hearing on the remand petition later today. This high-profile investigation has drawn significant public attention, as the Inqilab Mancha continues to demand justice for their fallen spokesperson and the swift arrest of all involved in the political violence.
