According to an emergency press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday, April 12, 2026, the situation has become particularly alarming in the Dhaka division. Of the 10 fatalities reported in a single day, four have been clinically confirmed as measles deaths, while the remaining cases are classified as suspected. Highlighting the geographical intensity of the crisis, nine of the 10 deceased children were residents of Dhaka, where 703 new infections were recorded in the same period.

Data analysis from the DGHS reveals a grim trajectory since the outbreak began on March 15. To date, 28 children have been confirmed dead from the disease, with an additional 151 deaths listed as suspected measles cases. The total number of confirmed infections has reached 2,639, while more than 10,225 children are currently on the suspected list. Out of the 1,428 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, 150 are confirmed, while 1,268 children are exhibiting classic measles symptoms. Health experts have categorized the current surge as a national crisis, attributing the spike to previous disruptions in routine immunization programs.

The rapid transmission of the virus is being fueled by high population density, particularly in Dhaka and its surrounding urban centers. Health officials are urging parents to remain vigilant and ensure their children receive the necessary vaccinations immediately. The DGHS has emphasized that those who missed their scheduled doses must be brought to the nearest health centers to curb further spread. Physicians advise constant monitoring of children for symptoms such as high fever, cough, and skin rashes, recommending immediate consultation with specialists to prevent complications.

In response to the deteriorating situation, the government is planning to launch a massive, localized vaccination drive. The DGHS indicated that new large-scale immunization protocols may be announced in the coming days to target high-risk zones. While current efforts focus on containment and public awareness, the rising mortality rate has put immense pressure on the national healthcare infrastructure. Authorities maintain that widespread vaccination remains the only effective tool to halt the transmission cycle and protect the nation's vulnerable pediatric population from this preventable tragedy.
