Led by Opposition Leader Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the members exited the floor at 5:56 PM during the 12th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament. However, the hiatus was brief, as they resumed their seats around 7:15 PM. Dr. Rahman stated that the walkout was a response to the passage of several "anti-people" bills despite logical objections raised by the opposition.

In response, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed expressed surprise at the opposition's move. He questioned the rationale behind a walkout, noting that the opposition had actively participated in all previous readings and processes of the legislation. This marks the third time opposition MPs have staged a walkout since the current parliament began. The latest protest followed the passage of the ‘Local Government (Municipality) (Amendment) Bill, 2026,’ which was approved by a voice vote despite opposition dissent. To date, 72 out of 133 ordinances issued by the interim government have been passed as bills in the parliament.
