Parliament Passes 7 Key Bills Including Voter List Amendment Act
Law Minister Md. Asaduzzaman introduced ten ordinances as bills, while Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu presented the 'Agricultural Land Protection' bill. Among the proposed legislations, seven were successfully passed, including the Voter List (Amendment) Act 2026, Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2026, and various amendments concerning the Election Commission Secretariat and the delimitation of parliamentary constituencies.
However, three specific bills—related to the National Human Rights Commission, the Supreme Court Secretariat, and the appointment of Supreme Court judges—were withheld for further discussion due to existing objections. These will be re-introduced after review by a special parliamentary committee. This legislative move is part of a broader effort to convert 98 out of 133 ordinances issued by the interim government into permanent laws. While most administrative and electoral reforms gained immediate approval, the 'Land Use Control and Agricultural Land Protection' bill has been referred to a special committee for further scrutiny to ensure comprehensive legal framing.
