Special Committee Recommends Blocking 20 Interim Ordinances; Supreme Court Appointments Under Scrutiny
The report suggests that 16 ordinances, including those on enforced disappearances, the Anti-Corruption Commission, and referendums, should not be passed immediately but instead be restructured into more robust bills. Of the remaining 113 ordinances, 98 were recommended for introduction as bills in their original form, while 15 were suggested for amendment. All ordinances must be approved as bills by April 12 to remain legally valid.
The four ordinances recommended for repeal are the National Parliament Secretariat (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2024, the Supreme Court Judge Appointment Ordinance 2025, and two others related to the Supreme Court Secretariat. The opposition has notably submitted 'Notes of Dissent' on 14 of the committee's recommendations, highlighting a lack of consensus on key legislative reforms.
