Home Minister Slams July Charter Implementation Order as a 'Document of Deception'
Participating in the scheduled discussion on Tuesday, the Minister challenged the legal validity of the order. He argued that under Section 17/2 of the Fourth Schedule of the Constitution, the President lacks the authority to issue such an order. He noted that since April 7, 1973, the President's power to issue such executive orders has been revoked to protect the sovereignty of the Parliament.
Addressing rumors that the BNP opposes reforms, Ahmed clarified that while they uphold every word of the July Charter, they oppose the unconstitutional process. He metaphorically stated that the President was coerced into issuing the order, comparing it to "forcing a swan to lay a golden egg," resulting in an "illegal outcome." He also questioned the procedural integrity of how the oath documents of the Constitution Reform Council reached the members of Parliament.
