High Court Justice Md. Rezaul Hasan Resigns Amid Corruption Allegations
His resignation letter was submitted to the Supreme Court on Monday, March 30, 2026, and has been forwarded to the President for formal acceptance.
The resignation follows a formal complaint lodged by KM Mojibul Haque, Chairman of the Shah Group, with the Supreme Judicial Council. The petitioner sought a constitutional investigation into the justice's conduct, alleging that specific rulings were influenced by bias and procedural manipulation.
Key Cases of Alleged Misconduct The complaint highlights two major instances involving company-related litigation handled by Justice Hasan in 2010 and 2011:
Fabricated Arguments: In one case, the justice allegedly included the name and specific arguments of a senior lawyer in a written judgment, despite that lawyer never appearing or participating in the proceedings. This verdict was subsequently overturned by the Appellate Division.
Illegal Share Cancellation: In a second case, the justice ordered the cancellation of 1.3 million shares belonging to the petitioner’s wife. Crucially, the order was passed without ever naming her as a party to the case, which the petitioner argues was a gross violation of legal principles.
While the Supreme Judicial Council was requested to initiate a formal probe into these claims, Justice Rezaul Hasan chose to step down before the investigation reached a conclusion. His departure marks a significant moment of internal accountability within the higher judiciary as it continues to face calls for increased transparency in legal proceedings.
