Government to Investigate Corruption in BCB; Officials’ Assets Under Scrutiny
Responding to a query from Bogra-4 MP Mosharraf Hossain during a parliamentary session on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Minister expressed deep dissatisfaction with the board's past operations, alleging that BCB resources were historically exploited to serve specific political interests.
The State Minister highlighted that since 2008, excessive politicization has led to stagnation in the country's sporting arena. To rectify this, the government has issued several high-stakes directives:
Asset Declaration: Aminul Haque has publicly called upon the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to investigate the personal wealth and assets of BCB officials and employees suspected of financial malpractice.
Election Probe: A formal investigation has been launched into the BCB elections held last October. A probe committee has been mandated to submit a detailed report within 15 working days to identify any illegal political interference or manipulation of voting rights.
Review of Appointments: Authorities are currently identifying individuals who were "illegally recruited" through political lobbying rather than professional merit.
The Minister informed the Parliament that several high-ranking directors have already been brought under questioning to uncover the extent of institutionalized corruption. The move is part of a broader "cleansing operation" aimed at restoring transparency to the nation's wealthiest sporting body.
"We are determined to free the sports arena from the shackles of partisan politics," the Minister stated, emphasizing that the BCB must function as a professional organization dedicated solely to the development of cricket. The government intends to use the findings of the 15-day investigation to implement structural reforms and ensure that future leadership is determined by fair and transparent processes.
