The Army Chief departed for Washington on Saturday, March 28, marking his second official trip to the U.S. since assuming command in June 2024.

Recognition for Peacekeepers and Academic Engagement The ISPR has highlighted the significant diplomatic and honorary nature of this visit. A primary objective of the trip is General Waker-Uz-Zaman’s attendance at a special ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol. During this event, he will formally accept a recognition initiative honoring the commendable contributions of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in United Nations missions—a testament to Bangladesh's long-standing status as a top troop-contributing nation.

Furthermore, the Army Chief is scheduled to deliver a special lecture at the Senate Chamber, where he is expected to discuss regional security dynamics and the evolution of the Bangladesh Army’s professional capabilities.

Strengthening Strategic Ties Beyond the ceremonial aspects, the visit includes several high-level bilateral meetings with senior U.S. military and civilian officials. These discussions are expected to focus on:

  • Military Cooperation: Enhancing defense ties and modernization efforts within the Bangladesh Army.

  • Global Security: Addressing regional stability amidst current geopolitical tensions, including the ongoing West Asia conflict.

  • Peacekeeping Logistics: Coordinating on future UN missions and training partnerships.

General Waker-Uz-Zaman is accompanied by his spouse, Begum Sarahnaz Kamalika Zaman, and a delegation of senior military officers, including three Brigadier-level officials. This visit follows a period of heightened domestic activity where the Army Chief played a key role in ensuring security during the February 2026 general elections and subsequent administrative transitions.
