Speaker’s Wife Dilara Hafiz Passes Away in Singapore

She was 78. Dilara Hafiz breathed her last at approximately 1:29 PM local time (11:30 AM Bangladesh time), according to family sources and local political leaders in Bhola.

Mrs. Dilara had been suffering from various age-old complications and serious illnesses for a long time. She was initially treated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. As her condition deteriorated, she was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr (March 21) for advanced medical care. Despite being placed on ventilation support over the past few days, medical efforts were unable to save her.

According to the family, her body is scheduled to be flown back to Bangladesh on Sunday evening. Her first Namaz-e-Janaza will be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 30. Following a second Janaza at the Cantonment Central Mosque after Dhuhr prayers, she will be laid to rest at the Banani Military Graveyard. Leaders from across the political spectrum have expressed deep condolences to the bereaved Speaker and his family.
