"1971 Comes First; Its History is Unique and Uncontested": Home Minister
Speaking at a discussion organized by the BNP in Dhaka this Friday (March 27, 2026), Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed emphasized that while the 2024 mass uprising freed the country from autocracy, the history of 1971 remains supreme. He reiterated that the proclamation of independence by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman is a documented historical fact.
Criticizing the previous Awami League regime, the Minister accused them of distorting history for narrow political gains and failing to acknowledge the contributions of others. Regarding the current political landscape, he noted that the task of state rebuilding is still underway following the July-August uprising. The Home Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to fostering parliamentary democracy and building a modern, democratic Bangladesh through inclusive dialogue.
