PM Tarique Rahman Calls for Unity to Build a Self-Reliant and Democratic Bangladesh
Describing the night of March 25, 1971, as one of the darkest and most brutal chapters in the country's history, he highlighted the planned atrocities committed by Pakistani forces under 'Operation Searchlight.' He paid profound respect to the martyrs who lost their lives at Dhaka University, Pilkhana, Rajarbagh, and other locations, praying for the salvation of their departed souls.
The Prime Minister noted that while the reasons behind the failure of the then-political leadership to prevent such a massacre remain a subject for historical research, the formal armed resistance initiated by the 8th East Bengal Regiment in Chattogram with the cry 'We Revolt' was a turning point. He emphasized that it is crucial for both current and future generations to understand the significance of this day to truly appreciate the value of independence. Concluding his message, he called upon everyone to honor the martyrs' sacrifices by upholding the core values of the Liberation War—equality, human dignity, and social justice.
