Bangladesh Calls for Global Unity Against Racism at the United Nations
According to a press release from the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in New York on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman delivered a keynote address emphasizing the country's steadfast commitment to combating all forms of racial injustice.
In his speech, Dr. Rahman noted that the international community is still far from achieving the objectives laid out in the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. He specifically highlighted the ongoing humanitarian crises and systemic oppression in Rakhine and Gaza as urgent reminders of the need for decisive global action.
The Foreign Minister also expressed deep concern over the exploitation and exclusion faced by migrant workers worldwide, noting that such discrimination undermines the core values of the United Nations. Reaffirming Bangladesh's constitutional dedication to human rights and equality, he called for several strategic measures:
Increased global investment in education to foster tolerance.
Decisive international action to prevent online hate speech.
Enhanced intercultural dialogue to promote peaceful coexistence.
Dr. Rahman concluded by reiterating that Bangladesh remains a signatory to all major international conventions against racism and continues to work toward an inclusive society where diversity is celebrated as an asset.
