35 Candidates Challenge Election Results in High Court; EC Ordered to Preserve Records
The single-judge bench of Justice Md. Zakir Hossain accepted the cases and directed the Election Commission (EC) to preserve all relevant evidence, including ballot papers and CCTV footage from the contested constituencies.
The petitioners include 21 candidates from BNP, 12 from Jamaat-e-Islami, and one each from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and LDP. Prominent figures like Maulana Mamunul Haque and Syed Emran Saleh Prince are among those seeking legal redress. Senior lawyer Ruhul Kuddus Kajal argued that "abnormal" numbers of ballots were cancelled in several centers and presented evidence of presiding officers allegedly tampering with votes. The court has issued notices to the winning candidates, marking the beginning of a significant legal battle over the credibility of the recent elections.
