10 Essential Acts of Worship for Laylatul Qadr
Seeking this night during the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan is a unique opportunity for spiritual rejuvenation and forgiveness. To make the most of this blessed night, here are 10 recommended acts of worship:
1. Voluntary and Tahajjud Prayers: Performing Nafl (voluntary) prayers is highly rewarded. Tahajjud, performed in the later part of the night, is particularly significant as it is a time when supplications are most readily accepted. Prostrate for longer durations, using the time to speak to the Creator with sincerity.
2. Salatul Tasbih: This is a special prayer recommended for seeking the forgiveness of all past sins. Though not mandatory, the Prophet (PBUH) suggested performing it at least once in a lifetime due to its immense spiritual weight.
3. Recitation of the Holy Quran: Since the Quran was revealed on this very night, its recitation is the most fitting tribute. Instead of rushing, try to recite with contemplation (Tadabbur) and understand the meaning of the verses.
4. The Special Supplication (Dua): When Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet (PBUH) what to pray for if she found the night, he taught her this powerful dua: "Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun, tuhibbul-'afwa, fa'fu 'anni" (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me).
5. Sincere Repentance (Tawbah): Use this night to reflect on past mistakes and turn back to Allah with a firm resolve to improve. Constantly reciting "Astaghfirullah" helps purify the heart and soul.
6. Dhikr and Remembrance: Engage in the constant remembrance of Allah by reciting phrases like "SubhanAllah," "Alhamdulillah," "La ilaha illallah," and "Allahu Akbar." These simple words bring immense peace to the heart.
7. Sending Salutations upon the Prophet (PBUH): Reciting Durood Sharif brings blessings and mercy. For every time you send blessings upon the Prophet (PBUH), Allah sends ten blessings upon you.
8. Awwabin Prayer: Performing six rak'ahs of voluntary prayer after Maghrib is highly virtuous and acts as a beautiful transition into the night's extended worship.
9. Charity and Sadaqah: Charity in Ramadan is multiplied, but doing so on a night better than a thousand months is unparalleled. Even a small act of kindness or a modest donation is heavily rewarded.
10. Praying for the Ummah: Do not limit your prayers to yourself. Include your parents, family, deceased relatives, and the entire Muslim Ummah—especially those suffering in various parts of the world—in your supplications.
