According to a circular issued by the central bank's Off-site Supervision Department on Monday, March 16, 2026, this move is intended to ensure the timely payment of salaries, bonuses, and allowances to garment workers, as well as to keep export-import activities functioning smoothly.

Under this directive, designated bank branches in key industrial hubs will remain open on Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19, despite these days being part of the official public holiday. In these specific areas, banking transactions will be available from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while administrative and office work may continue until 2:00 PM. A brief break for Zohr prayers has been scheduled from 1:15 PM to 1:30 PM. All banks will remain fully closed on the day of Eid itself.

The special instructions apply to bank branches located in Dhaka Metropolitan Area, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Bhaluka, Narayanganj, and Chattogram. Central bank authorities have emphasized the importance of maintaining adequate security at these branches during the holiday operations. This measure aims to prevent any unrest or complications regarding workers' dues in the final days leading up to the festival.
