Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Heads to Dinajpur Following Arrival at Saidpur
The Prime Minister reached the airport via air at 10:15 AM, where he was received with floral greetings by senior local administration officials and top political leaders. Following his arrival, a specialized bulletproof bus carrying the Prime Minister departed for Dinajpur, passing through Saidpur city as crowds of citizens and party activists lined both sides of the highway to offer a warm reception. To ensure a smooth transition, the Officer-in-Charge of Saidpur Police Station, Rezaul Karim Reza, confirmed that a multi-tier security blanket has been established, with law enforcement agencies maintained at the highest level of alertness throughout the travel route.
The primary objective of this visit is to inaugurate a 12-kilometer canal re-excavation project in the Balarampur Sahapara area of Kaharole. During this event, the Prime Minister will virtually launch a nationwide canal excavation program across 53 other districts simultaneously. This initiative draws inspiration from the canal-digging movement originally started by the late President Ziaur Rahman. The current administration has formulated a master plan to excavate 20,000 kilometers of rivers and canals across the country over the next five years, with today’s ceremony marking the official commencement of the project’s first phase.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit the Faridpur graveyard in Dinajpur city to offer prayers at the graves of his maternal grandfather, late Md. Iskandar Majumdar, grandmother late Tayyaba Majumdar, and aunt late Khurshid Jahan Haque. His itinerary for the day concludes with participation in an Iftar and prayer session alongside local dignitaries and political leaders. The visit has generated significant enthusiasm throughout Northern Bangladesh, as it signals a major push for regional agricultural development and infrastructure modernization.
